Humidity Chambers require water to create the humidity. But did you know that this water MUST be purified? The humidity heater, the boiler system and the interior of the humidity chamber can be damaged by using tap water. However, using a water supply that is TOO pure can also cause problems. Your humidity chamber can read improper humidity levels which can skew your test results or even damage your product.
You want the water you supply to your humidity chamber to be in the range of 0.5 to 2.0 Mega Ohms of resistivity. (Mega Ohms is a common measurement of water purity) When the purity goes above 2.0 Mega Ohms not only can test results be wrong, your elements, boiler, and integrity of the humidity chamber can deteriorate more quickly – shortening the lifespan of your humidity chamber. The water becomes too pure and begins to act as a solvent and can start causing metal corrosion. Lower resistances – such as city water – are also to be avoided. This water will have too many minerals which will leave deposits and can block pipes.
By using Demineralizer Cartridges you can easily extend the life of your humidity chamber. The filters will change color, alerting you that it is time to replace them and save the humidity chamber from damage. LR Environmental stocks replacement filters for fast shipment.
Water Recalculating Systems – which we offer – are also a great addition to your humidity chamber. These will contain the water supply eliminating the need to continually fill the chamber and no drainage system is required.
