Salt Spray / Fog Chamber

MODELS: MX-9200

Corrosive atmosphere chambers are designed to subject the test specimen to corrosion without introducing other contaminants into the test area.   MX-9200 have a test area constructed of all transparent Lucite which is impervious to the corrosive effects of the salt atmosphere, and they are designed so that direct visual observation of the item being tested is available at all times.  The base is designed of stainless steel in order to maintain a laboratory-like quality for the equipment's finish.  All thermostats and other metallic items in the chamber are monel to avoid any transference and to minimize corrosive effects.  Although the basic chamber was designed to meet military specifications, including MIL-STD-810, the chamber also is capable of performing many commercial and ASTM specifications.

Test specimens are hung or supported within the test area by a number of Lucite rods.  The salt solution reservoir, located within the double wall construction, is maintained at a preset controlled temperature by a high reliability, thermostatic temperature controller. The salt solution is introduced into the chamber through an atomizing nozzle.  This nozzle can be calibrated by  to perform salt atmosphere capabilities for MIL-STD-19500B, paragraph 40.8 and other specifications. This specification requires that a salt residue be deposited on the specimens, in addition to generating salt fog atmosphere.  these salt spray chambers are entirely self-contained and require only the normal factory utilities provided by the purchaser.  The preparation of a salt solution consists normally of sodium chloride containing as a dry compound not more than 0.1% of sodium iodide and not more than 0.2% of total impurities.  This solution is prepared by dissolving five parts by weight of salt in 95 parts by weight of distilled water.  It is important to maintain this solution at a specific gravity of from 1.023 to 1.037.   The solution is maintained at a controlled temperature of 95°F by the chamber's own integral temperature control system (temperature is adjustable).

All of these corrosive atmosphere chambers are designed to perform continuous unattended tests for a maximum duration of 72 hours.  For longer term test programs, the chamber may be equipped with a tower level control and a salt solution reservoir level control to automatically refill the system from an external storage tank.  This tank is available..
